One of the most beautiful garments we've had the pleasure of finding. The circa 100 years of character that's built up in the wonderfully soft and supple leather coat is really special. The quality of the leather and soft wool geometric art deco style lining indicate this would have been a luxury bespoke coat to be worn for either motoring or aviation, or indeed both. It's nicely fitted across the shoulders and chest, widening gently as it goes down. There is a very nice extended lower part that buttons  all the way across inside, both holding the shape and exuding any draft at the same time. There are two hand warmer pockets lined with the same geometric pattern wool and the double breasted collar can be fastened all the way over to the collar for extra warmth. There would have been a belt but it's sadly no longer present,  The lining has been extensively darned and repaired over time, quite charmingly so,  and is thin in places. The leather is both faded and darkened  in different places, with some cracking, but still very soft and supple, and the most beautiful textures and patina. It's a very wearable and really quite stunning garment. It was in the same family for many years and is believed to have been originally made for a naval surgeon who was born in 1870s. This should fit up to a 40" chest, maybe a little larger. For guidance, I am pictured wearing it and am 6ft2" and a 40" chest, but please check measurements:

Shoulders 18.5"

Pit to pit 22.75"

Sleeves 25"

Length at back 48"
