A wonderful piece of historic British workwear, besutifully made and very well preserved. It was made for LNER, which existed from 1923 to 1948 and would have been issued to a signalman I believe, although I've seen these also attributed to porters and other workers. It has LNER buttons, pressed in Gill sans, with a wool body, full cotton drill lining and cotton sleeves. The remnants of a paper label survive in the lining, giving only size details. The sleeves in particular are wonderfully shaped and in effect the jacket is effectively a sleeved waistcoat, somewhat reminiscent of a doublet, as worn up until the mid 17th century. It's a very beautiful garment and quite rare to find, particularly in such good condition.
